The Philippines soared 19 notches up the rankings in the latest edition of the annual Global Innovation Index (GII) released by Cornell University & INSEAD, marking the biggest jump among Southeast Asian nations.
The Philippine economy ranked 54th in the 2019 GII up 19 levels from its 73rd ranking in the GII 2018 edition.
The newest GII covers rankings of 129 economies, with the Philippines ranked 5th among ASEAN members.

The Global Innovation Index (GII) 2019: Creating Healthy Lives-The Future of Medical Innovation report released on July 24 provides 80 detailed metrics for measuring an economy’s innovation performance in the medical field.
The Philippines was given a score of 36.2 out of 100 points. Switzerland led the list with 67.2 points, followed by Sweden (63.7), and the United States of America (61.7).
